Myelography

This test provides important information about your spinal cord and the spaces surrounding it.

What is Myelography?

A Radiologic (x-ray) examination used to detect injuries, herniated discs, enlarged blood vessels and other abnormalities, especially compression of the spinal cord. Also it is used to detect injuries to the nerve roots branching off the spinal cord.

Preparing for your Myelogram:

Please bring any outside imaging to our facility with reports at time of appointment.
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment, check into suite 102
  • Pregnancy is contraindicated for this exam
  • If you are allergic to iodine contrast “x-ray dye” please report this to your doctor before you schedule the exam
  • If you are diabetic notify your doctor prior to scheduling your myelogram for insulin/diet management
  • If you have a history of seizures, or epilepsy and are taking medications for this, please notify your doctor and our facility at the time of scheduling
  • If  you are taking any prescribed medications, please notify your doctor and our facility prior to the exam so we may give you specific instructions regarding your particular medicines
  • Do not eat or drink anything 3 hours prior to your test
  • Hydrate well with water the day before your test
  • No bathing for 24 hours following the myelogram.  
  • You must arrange for a driver to pick you after your exam
  • You may expect to remain at our facility for 1.5-2 hours
